Portugal's D8 visa is for remote employees and freelancers earning at least 4x the national minimum wage (EUR 3,680/month in 2026) from employers or clients outside Portugal. It comes in two forms: a one-year temporary stay visa, or a four-month residency visa (fee ~EUR 90) that converts on arrival into a two-year residence permit, renewable for three more years. The residency route counts toward permanent residence after five years of legal residence.
