New Zealand has no standalone digital nomad visa, but all visitor visas applied for on or after 27 January 2025 explicitly permit unlimited remote work for overseas employers and clients — a change the government marketed to digital nomads. Visitors can stay up to 9 months in an 18-month period (6 months on a multiple-entry visa), with no minimum income beyond standard visitor funds of NZD 1,000 per month; the visitor visa costs about NZD 441 (~USD 265) including levies, while visa-waiver nationals can use the cheaper NZeTA (~NZD 117) for shorter stays. Work for NZ-based businesses or work requiring physical presence in New Zealand remains prohibited.
