Malta's Nomad Residence Permit is open to non-EU remote workers earning at least EUR 42,000 gross per year from employers, business ownership, or freelance clients outside Malta, with health insurance and a Maltese rental or purchase agreement required. The permit is valid for one year and renewable up to three times for a maximum stay of four years (EUR 300 application fee plus EUR 100 residence card fee per person), after which a 12-month cooling-off period applies. Remote-work income enjoys a flat 10% tax rate after a 12-month exemption, but the permit does not lead to permanent residence or citizenship.
