Japan's digital nomad visa (a Designated Activities status launched March 31, 2024) lets nationals of ~50 visa-waiver countries with a Japan tax treaty work remotely from Japan for up to 6 months. It cannot be extended, no residence card is issued, and you cannot reapply within 6 months of leaving. Applicants must show annual income of at least JPY 10 million and private health insurance with at least JPY 10 million in coverage; spouses and children may accompany the holder, and the visa fee is the standard ~JPY 3,000 (waived for some nationalities, including Americans).
