Germany has no dedicated digital nomad visa, but its freelance residence permit is the established route for self-employed remote professionals in liberal professions (IT, design, writing, teaching, consulting and similar). Instead of a fixed income threshold you must show a revenue forecast, fee agreements or at least two letters of intent from clients (German clients strengthen the case), German health insurance, and a local address; the permit is issued for up to three years, is renewable, and can lead to permanent residency. Applying costs EUR 75 for the national D entry visa plus EUR 100 for the electronic residence permit, and since March 2026 Berlin only accepts applications through its online portal.
