Costa Rica's digital nomad program (Law 9996) grants a 1-year 'estancia' for remote workers earning at least USD 3,000/month from abroad (USD 4,000 with family), extendable for one more year. The government fee is USD 100 paid to Banco de Costa Rica, plus a roughly USD 90 immigration document fee, and you need medical insurance with at least USD 50,000 coverage for your whole stay. Foreign earnings are exempt from Costa Rican income tax, but time on this permit does not count toward permanent residency.
