Prague Hotel Demand Surges as Czech Overnight Stays Climb in 2026

The Czech Republic is drawing more visitors than before the pandemic, and Prague is bearing the brunt of the demand. According to figures cited by CzechTourism and the Czech Statistical Office, hotel stays across the country climbed 6.3% in the first quarter of 2026 to nearly 8 million nights, while Prague alone recorded roughly 3.8 million overnight stays from almost 1.7 million visitors.

What the numbers show

Czechia logged 4.4 million guests and 11.1 million overnight stays in collective accommodation in Q1 2026, up 5.2% and 5.7% respectively year on year. Hotels accounted for 3.4 million of those guests, a 5.6% increase. For the full year 2025, the country hosted 23.6 million guests and 59.1 million nights, both above 2019 levels.

A widely quoted 18% growth figure comes from Amadeus Travel Intelligence and UN Tourism data covering bookings from May 2025 through April 2026. Importantly, that number reflects travel-platform booking demand, not an 18% jump in hotel occupancy, room rates or revenue. Occupancy nationwide now exceeds 60%.

Prague's overnight stays rose about 7% from a year earlier, making the city center the tightest market for hotel rooms, serviced apartments and furnished short-term rentals.

What it means for nomads

The data do not support adding a fixed monthly rent premium for Prague. What they do signal is that a 30-day stay in the capital now competes in a market where overnight demand is outpacing guest arrivals. In practice, that makes availability, not a documented nationwide price increase, the more immediate planning concern. Booking earlier and considering neighborhoods outside the historic center may ease both cost and competition.

Visa access is unchanged

More tourists do not translate into wider immigration eligibility. The Czech Digital Nomad Program remains limited to qualifying IT and marketing specialists from designated countries, along with immediate family members. Eligible participants can work remotely for a foreign employer or freelance under a Czech trade license.

Applications begin with a request to the program before pursuing the relevant long-term visa or residence route. Because a complete fee schedule is not published on the official program page, prospective applicants should confirm eligibility, costs and settling-in details before committing to any accommodation. If you do not qualify for the nomad track, standard visa and residence rules still apply.

The takeaway for remote workers eyeing Prague: the city remains a popular, well-connected base, but rising demand means locking in housing ahead of time is increasingly worthwhile.
